Richard and Margaret Redmond, of Scipio Center, celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a July 30, 2016 lawn party at their farm, and a July 31st Mass of Thanksgiving at Our Lady Catholic Church in King Ferry. The events were hosted by their eight children, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The couple was married June 16, 1951, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Greene. They completed their Cornell University degrees by student teaching agriculture and home economics that fall at King Ferry High School. After initial farming efforts in Morrisville and Greene, they bought their farm on Black Street in Scipio in 1958.

Mr. Redmond served as president of the Cayuga County Farm Bureau, as well as director, corporate secretary and president of the Dairylea Cooperative.

Mrs. Redmond retired as director of the Research Office of the College of Human Ecology at Cornell. She previously established the science library at the Southern Cayuga Atmospherium-Planetarium and developed grants and contracts for Cayuga County Community College.
