Miss Jade Marie Francis — daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rowland and Sheri Francis and Miss Tracy Valerio — and Mr. Grant Armstrong Newell — son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Mary Newell — have been wed. A small ceremony took place in downtown Auburn — where the couple first met and were both born and raised — at twilight, under light snow and a full moon, on New Year’s Day morning.

The lovely Laura Coburn so eloquently officiated. The couple’s beloved niece Lily “Circle Face/Meatball” Marie Shields served as their flower girl and assisted in the fasting of their hands. The bride was given in marriage that morning by her father, Rowland — as well as, posthumously in spirit, her Great Uncle John (Giam B.) Valerio, who adored both her and the groom and voiced his approval for the two to be joined in marriage through many conversations with the couple throughout the years since they met. Jade and Grant were engaged to be married just one week prior on Christmas morning. They live together at their home in Victor, with their beloved cat Winston J. Heusenfat.

Jade — the bride — is a proud graduate of Syracuse University (go Orange!), Keuka College and Cayuga Community College. She is a social worker serving U.S. military veterans and their families at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Rochester. She adores trees, the moon and all things Italian-American. But biggest of all, beyond even her adoration for life, is her adoration and respect for Grant.

Grant — the groom — is a graduate of Auburn High School. He is employed as a dry blend pperator at Grober Nutrition in Auburn. He spent many years supporting the bride as she pursued college and shares with her a love for music, camping, spontaneous adventures and the Buffalo Bills. Also held fondly to him is his love for BMX. He has been very deeply in love with Jade since the couple first joined together.

“The Newellyweds” are planning to celebrate their marriage every day by sharing their joys and sorrows, communicating wholeheartedly and keeping themselves well for one another. The couple spent the afternoon following their ceremony honeymooning at Mirbeau Inn & Spa in Skaneateles. They are actively planning a trip to Italy for their formal honeymoon. A June 2 brunch is also being planned for family and friends to join in celebrating their love.
