AUBURN - It wasn't even close.

Team Thorlo finished 10 minutes ahead of the second-place finishers to capture the 27th annual Great Winter Race Sunday.

The team comprised of Jack Kirch (skating), Jerry Mcomber (5k), Mike Brych (10k), Andrew Melnychenko (ski) and Tim Walczyk (snowshoe), finished the course in 1:52.48. The race included skating, 5K and 10K races, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing.

On a day in which the New England Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years, Kirch admits the Thorlo team is something of a dynasty as well. Thorlo has won the Great Winter Race in seven of the last 10 years. Kirch has been involved in the race since it began and team Thorlo has been competing for the past 12 years.

"It feels great," Kirch said. "It is really awesome. We look forward to it every year."

Other winners Sunday included the women's team of 5 Friends, the mixed team Hair Shack Attack, and the masters team Curly's Drafts. The mixed Over-40 division was split between the Dead Crows, and Michaels and Smolak's Sole Connection.
