AUBURN - Cayuga County officials are hoping that setting a salary requirement for the new Cayuga County Nursing Home administrator will help whittle down the applications they have received.
As of Thursday night, Cayuga County Civil Service Commission had received about 20 applications for administrator at the Cayuga County Nursing Home.
The postmark deadline for applications was Wednesday, so more are expected to trickle in over the next few days.
Health and Human Services Committee Chair Michele Sedor was pleased with the number of applications.
The position was advertised without salary requirements, so some of the applicants were looking for a salary upward of $90,000. Sedor said that would be unrealistic for a county the size of Cayuga. Former administrator Rob Flynn earned $65,000 annually.
Health and Human Services Committee Chair Michele Sedor, Legislator David Pappert, Legislature Chairman Herb Marshall and civil service executive secretary Faye Hatfield will meet to set the salary. Once the salary is decided, applicants will be notified. Marshall expects at that point some will take themselves out of the running.
Alice Amoia, former director of nursing, who has filled in as administrator in the past, has been the facility's acting administrator since December when Flynn resigned.
In other news:
The county's Health and Human Services Committee held off on a request from Amoia to hire a part-time typist position at the nursing home. Amoia said one clerk handles Medicaid billing and employee scheduling, and that combination of duties has proven difficult to handle.
The committee was hesitant to authorize about $12,000 for the salary.
The nursing home's controller Kelly Albrecht will look at the facility's current budget to see where $12,000 could be rearranged and report back to the committee next month.
