SKANEATELES - Skaneateles Central School's troubles hanging on to football have left the Lakers reaching to save their season. Skaneateles overcame a 21-0 second-quarter deficit only to fumble a go-ahead 2-point conversion attempt with 1:02 remaining in the game. Quarterback Mike Hogan's pass to Jason Miller was jarred lose around the 5-yard line and recovered by Marcellus' Joe Middaugh in the end zone. Middaugh's recovery ensured the Mustangs a 27-26 victory Friday night in a Section III Class B West opener for both teams.

BRUTUS - The town's Republican Committee has given Ann Petrus thumbs up to take the Cayuga County Legislature seat that will be vacated with Earl Lamphere's retirement. The committee, in what is being described as “a majority vote,” chose Petrus over Harry Hinman when eight members met to interview potential legislators.
