Big trucks benefit to be held Sunday
BIG TRUCKS, a benefit for the Skaneateles Nursery School and Marcellus Parent Nursery School, will be held again this year from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Saunders Quarry on Limeledge Road in Marcellus. Cost is $4 and children 2 and under are free.
This event is sponsored by Todd's Fund and will feature more than 40 big and little trucks, quarry tours, magicians, music and food. To learn more, call 685-8543.
Moravia schoolsrecognize alumni
Moravia Central School will induct two Moravia alumni into the Hall of Achievement prior to the start of the football game Saturday, Sept. 29. The Hall of Achievement recognizes graduates who personify outstanding individuals and the type of role model the school district wishes to celebrate.
Penny Schenck Stoker, class of 1977 will be one of the inductees. Since graduation, she has lived in Japan and England, finished a bachelor's and master's degree and has achieved an executive position with a large, global organization. Stoker says her husband, Rick, with whom she shares two children, has been her biggest fan.
The other inductee is Michael D. Kulis Jr., class of 1996. He graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in biology and earned a Ph.D. from Georgia Tech. He is employed by Duke University in Durham, N.C., doing research on food allergies. Kulis credits the community in general with providing him a solid foundation for his adult life.
Student attending Thiel College
Joshua M. Sherman, a 2007 graduate of Skaneateles High School, has been accepted and is attending Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Garry Sherman of Auburn.
AEF launches new Web site
The Auburn Education Foundation has a new Web site. Information about grant programs, community partnerships, upcoming events, alumni and ways to get involved is on the site.
Site visitors can suggest ideas for new projects and partnerships, and Auburn educators can download the grant application form. The site may be found at auburnedfoundation.org.
School to hold bottle, can drive
SS. Peter and Paul School will hold a bottle and can drive to benefit the school's fifth- through eighth-graders from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at the SS. Peter and Paul Church's parking lot, 132 Washington St., Auburn.
Alumni group to hold dinner dance
The Auburn/Cayuga Community College Alumni Association plans to inaugurate a new annual reunion highlight this year. A reunion dinner dance will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Holiday Inn, North Street, Auburn.
The theme will be “Dancing through the Decades.” Starting at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails poolside, dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. in the ballroom. Music and dancing will follow from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. to the sounds of the Rochester Brass and Electric Band.
Alumni and guests may reserve seats for $35 each or tables of 10 for $300, by calling the college alumni office at 255-1743 ext. 2454.
