UTICA -- The man who fatally shot a Utica police officer last year has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
About 200 police officers and friends and relatives of Thomas Lindsey packed the courtroom Thursday morning for Wesley Molina-Cirino's sentencing.

Molina-Cirino was convicted of aggravated murder for the April 2007 slaying of the 32-year-old Lindsey, a former Marine and six-year police veteran. Lindsey was shot in the head from behind during a traffic stop in a high-crime neighborhood.

The sentencing took place in the same courtroom where Toussaint Davis of Philadelphia was sentenced last year to 300 years in prison for gunning down New Hartford Officer Joseph Corr while trying to flee a multimillion dollar jewelry store heist.

" I agree with the comment that it should have been the death penalty! These officers risk their lives everyday so we can live in peace from these type of individuals in our society. It is not that one life is more valued than another, it is that these officers already have a greater risk of losing their lives, protecting us, than the average citizen. I sleep better at night knowing they are protecting us in this crime filled world we all have to live in. "

" Agreed---A life is a life. Whether it’s a homeless person, young, old, rich poor, all life is precious and should have the same sentence. By giving stronger sentences to some people because of who they killed is wrong, ALL people should be charged the same. By giving stronger sentences to some just means that person life that was taken was more important then some which is simply not true "

" I am glad for the sentence but if it was just a normal person such as myself, that got killed the sentence wouldn't have been so tough. "
