JORDAN - It was Friday reprised for the Jordan-Elbridge Central School District.

At Tuesday's regular board of education meeting, the board voted unanimously - again - to cancel the previously scheduled June 10 vote for the proposed $28.9 million capital project.

The board voted for this measure at a special meeting May 30.

Board members joked following the second vote that they are just making sure it was done the first time.

Canceling the vote, but not the project itself - voters may be voting for the project in the fall - is no doubt a response to voters defeating the proposed 2008-09 operating school budget of $26,951,966 May 20.

That budget marked a 5.79 percent increase over last year and carried an estimated tax levy increase of 4.33 percent. Voters will have their say on an amended budget of $26,762,966, an increase of 5.04 percent from last year, with a tax levy increase of 2.43 percent June 17.

A public budget hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. June 9 at the middle school large instruction room.

Superintendent Marilyn Dominick has previously said that confusion between the May 20 budget vote and the upcoming capital project vote may have played a part in the 667-426 budget defeat. The capital project, as it currently stands, deals with renovations in instruction, athletics, infrastructure and drainage.

The district previously separated the capital project into three propositions. The first would deal with campus renovations and infrastructure upgrades; the second for athletic and marching band improvements; and the third for an all-weather synthetic field.
