A remarkable season for the Skaneateles High School girls lacrosse team fell one game short Saturday as the girls were defeated in the state championship game at SUNY Cortland.
The Lakers were beaten 21-5 by Section XI's Shoreham-Wading River, the same team that beat them in the championship game last year.
Skaneateles has appeared in the state championship game four consecutive years and had outscored its opponents 50-15 in three playoff games leading up to Saturday's final.
