The city of Auburn could seek $200,000 in state funding for restorations to Willard Memorial Chapel.
Auburn City Council will vote Thursday during a business meeting on a resolution that would support an application for the funds by the Community Preservation Committee. The committee is applying for the money through a state Environmental Protection Fund Grant.
Such grants are used to “preserve, rehabilitate or restore lands, waters or structures for park, recreation or conservation purposes,” according to the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Located at 17 Nelson St., Willard Memorial Chapel is a rare example of work by Louis C. Tiffany and Tiffany Glass and Decoration Co. The chapel was built between 1892 and 1894, and is currently used for various community events.
Councilors will also vote on a resolution that would schedule for July 17 a public hearing regarding the possible elimination of the city's sales tax cap on fuel.
The 4 p.m. meeting Thursday will take place at Memorial City Hall, 24 South St.
