The New York Lottery is reporting a 4 percent increase in revenue this year — thanks partly to the video-lottery parlor at the Yonkers Raceway.
Empire City at the Raceway is the state's biggest video-lottery terminal, with 5,500 machines and high-priced scratch-off games.

Bennett Liebman, an industry expert, says gas prices are keeping people closer to home, hurting both Atlantic City and Connecticut casinos but helping betting parlors close to New York.

So far this fiscal year, which started April 1, the lottery's 4 percent growth has added about $82 million in revenue to state coffers.
