The city of Auburn might have found a new tenant for its recently vacated fire station.
According to a resolution on this week's city council agenda, TLC Emergency Medical Services is eyeing the property. Councilors will decide Thursday whether or not to allow the company to lease the space located at 5 Frederick St.

The 4 p.m. meeting will be held at Memorial City Hall, 24 South St.

The city currently contracts its ambulance services to TLC, which has been handling Auburn's emergency services since 2006. Lon Fricano, who directs TLC's Auburn operations, said the new station would give the company some “breathing room.”

TLC still plans to operate out of its main station at 165 North St., Fricano said. The Frederick Street station would serve as a satellite station to ease response times and gasoline issues, he said.

“We thought we would give it a try and see if it makes sense to put a crew there,” said Fricano, who added that there would likely be only one vehicle stationed at the location.

Fricano also said the company has offered to do some work on the building if the lease is granted.

The Frederick Street station was occupied by the Auburn Fire Department until April, when the city shut it down. The building has been vacant ever since.
