Sennett board working for the town's best interests

Wednesday, July 23, 2008 11:32 AM EDT

This is for the people who are not fully informed who write letters criticizing the Sennett Town Board, the zoning board and the code officer for their legal actions, zoning laws enforcement and proper procedures. These things have to be maintained when businesses come into our community and they feel they have the right to do anything they want to do.
Bonca's remodelers never took the proper first step to go to the planning board with plans and a map.

Do these people who are criticizing the town board, etc. realize what would happen if everyone was just allowed to do anything they saw fit to suit them? We would have no control over anyone.

We do have rules and regulations as all towns do.

This is not meant to start an argument, just to let some folks know we do have rules to abide by.

If they do not agree fine, but the rules must be enforced.

As for Bonca's, it is a great-looking building and the grounds are pleasing to the eye.

Myself and the other members of the town board would love to see it prosper, if they would only iron out a few minor details that are left.

Most of the town cost has been covered by insurance. As far as Highland Golf Club is concerned, we are not holding them up a bit.

Our actions are in the best interest of the residents and businesses in town and any future ones coming in.

" All the businesses should just leave sennett if they really want to show them. Lets see how they could do without any of the tax income. "

" Example: My mom is dirt poor. When her lawn mower broke down, she didn't have money right away to buy a new one, nor money to pay someone to mow it. So, instead of loaning her a mower (much less offering to help her out and mow it once), her neighbors called the ordinance officer to come out and give her a fine. Now when she does come up with a little money, instead of having it to put towards a new mower, she has to spend it on the fine -- and her lawn still isn't mowed. This isn't the first time this has happened either.
FG go mow you Mothers lawn yourself, toss the mower in the trunk of your car. No problem then? "

" The town of Sennett has a long time reputation of shaking down businesses to get permits. The entrance to Walmart is in Sennett and try researching how much they shook down Walmart for permission to open a superstore. They got trucks, equipment and more for that one. They are a bunch of thugs and should be quickly removed from their offices. By the next election or an impeachment. "

" No insurance company in their right mind would be paying after the first loss of the CE- I don't that Sennett received more than a very small fraction of the 80 plus thousand they have spent on this case.

Spell it out for us- how much spent, how much recovered from insurance. "

" And another thing - why does the town require a map?? They were remodeling an existing structure. I could see where Highland Golf Course would need to furnish a map. This whole issue is so ridiclous, it's beyond belief. "

" Bonca's never took the first step to go to the planning board with drawings and a map. I don't see this as a safety issue if the codes have been met. Width of parking places? I would like to see the city of Auburn check parking place widths near Parker's on Genesee St. Acouple of places are so narrow you can hardly fit a car in much less open a door. But as far as Bonca's goes, it would be nice to hear what is really going on and not just speculation. "

" I would say that the way this is being perceived by many I speak with is borderline of harassment. There is a reason why there is no business in Sennett, I would say that must be due to the people who are in office there. Open your mind, expand your horizons. If not business just goes elsewhere and no money here, which means no help with schools, roads etc. Think before you act. "

" Ken give the public a break and at least assume we have a little common sense. The facts are simple. The idiots running the town went against their own zoning board over use issues with the building. It went to court where the judge sided with the zoning board and the owners. The egomaniac code enforcement officer was your last avenue to hold up the opening with petty code violations. Most of what he found were immediately corrected and what was left amounted to nothing. Your ego and Weimans' got in the way of good judgement and job opportunities for teenager summer jobs. As previously mentioned voters will determine all of your fates at election time! "

" No, no -- not give them up, not at all. Just that it would be better for all involved if they were in a more cooperative mode than an adversarial mode.

Example: My mom is dirt poor.

So, instead of fining her over and over when she hasn't any bloody money, the town should be working with her to see what can be done to help her with her lawn (she has been told twice now there is a program to help low-income folks with their yard work and house maintenance, but so far, it's 3 years running and the official who told her about it has done nothing to help).

Similarly for the restaurant -- if the town would take a more cooperative approach, and the restaurant too, then they'll get to a happy resolution faster than if they square off in their corners and fight. "

" With all due respect FG, Sennett shoud not be giving up safety issues just to please business.

Like I said, Bonca's may have been victimized by overzealous code enforcement/zoning bs. They still have a resposibility for public safety, and the certificate of occupancy is the last step in the process. This shouldn't be a big deal. "

Should also be televised--maybe wake up some of thugs!

ps...not interested in the BS of the innocents getting accidently injected. Or how injections are inhumane. "

Well, that says it all doesn't it? You don't even care if innocent people are victimized by this barbarianism. I cannot believe anyone could be so callous. Amazing. "

" The last thing I heard that was holding things up with the opening was the width of the parking spaces??!! If this is true, why would this be an issue to keep it from opening?? I parked there over the weekend, and saw no problem with the widths. Is this in fact one of the issues?? As far as the public can see, all of this is nothing short of harassment. "
