The Auburn Youth Bowlers held their 25th Anniversary dinner for the Auburn Youth Bowlers Scholarship Fund at Sunset Restaurant in Auburn.
For more than 25 years, 117 scholarships have been awarded for a total of $81,750. There have also been 24 scholarships awarded in the Byrn's Junior Masters for $6,000. The money is raised through tournaments, special fundraisers and donations.
Also awarded at the dinner were the 2007-08 Association Awards. Britteny McIntyre earned the award for the high average, game and series for girls with an average of 179, a 279 high game and a high series of 653. Chris Fleming won the high average with a 205 and high game with a 276 for the boys. The winner of the high series boys was Kevin Roche with a 746.
Britteny McIntyre
McIntyre was awarded a scholarship for $1,250.00. The 18-year-old is the daughter of Dianne and Fredrick McIntyre of Seneca Falls and will be graduating from Mynderse Academy as 24th in a class of 107 with a cumulative average of 90.23.
McIntyre will attend SUNY Cobleskill to major in early childhood education.
A member of the Auburn Youth Bowling for two years at Starlite Lanes, McIntyre has served as team captain both years. This year she carried a 178 average and rolled 277-653 for Association Honors. She was the Byrn's Junior Masters Champion and the Starlite Junior Master Champion.
As the team captain for the varsity bowling team at Mynderse Academy, McIntyre placed first in the league and first in the singles/doubles qualifying her for the state championship where she placed second.
Michael Liccion
Michael Liccion, 17, also received a $1,250.00 scholarship. Liccion is the son of Richard Liccion and Marie Nellenback, and is graduating from Auburn High School as 40th in his class of 307 with a cumulative average of 91.679. Liccion will be going on to study business administration at SUNY Geneseo.
A member of Auburn Youth Bowling for 15 years, Liccion followed in the footsteps of his brother Richard. For 10 years, he was team captain and received many league awards for high games and series while carrying a high average of 185. He was also a two-time qualifier for the Byrn's Junior Masters.
Chelsea Paquette
Chelsea Paquette, the 17-year-old daughter of Don and Mindy Paquette of Weedsport, received a scholarship for $750 after graduating from Weedsport High School as 20th in a class of 84 with a cumulative average of 89.581. She will use her scholarship to attend Cayuga Community College with a dual major in teaching and registered nursing.
A member of Auburn Youth Bowling for nine years at Rainbow Lanes, Paquette served as team captain for all nine years and averaged 158 in league. She finished third place in the Byrn's Junior Masters in 2007, third place in the Howard Lawyer No-Tap Tournament and had the most improved average in her league.
Nicholas Capacci
Nicholas Capacci, 17, son of Joe and Shelley Capacci of Seneca Falls, was awarded a scholarship for $750 after graduating from Mynderse Academy 38th in a class of 107 with a cumulative average of 86.65. He will attend Finger Lakes Community College where he will major in natural resource conservation law enforcement.
Capacci has been a member of Auburn Youth Bowling for two years at Starlite Lanes earning many youth bowling awards along with having the third high game in the league of 240, he averaged 152 for the current bowling season.
Before he became a member in Auburn he was an active member of Geneva Youth Bowling.
Julie Janusz
Receiving a scholarship for $500 was Julie Janusz, the 17-yea- old daughter of Joseph and Mary Janusz of Auburn. Janusz graduated from Dana L. West High School in Port Byron 26th in a class of 67 with a cumulative average of 81.214. She will be attending Cayuga Community College to study criminal justice.
A member of Auburn Youth Bowling for 13 years at Starlite Lanes, Julie was team captain for all 13 years. She received numerous awards in the league and placed fourth in the 2005 Byrn's Junior Masters and third place in 2004. Her average for the current bowling season was 165.
Christopher Pettit
Christopher Pettit, the 19-year-old son of Mike and Diane Pettit of Aurora, also received a $500 scholarship after graduating from Southern Cayuga High School in Poplar Ridge where he was 66th in a class of 70 with a cumulative average of 76.28. He will attend Cayuga Community College to major in mechanical CAD drafting and drawing.
Pettit has been a member of Auburn Youth Bowling for 13 years at King Ferry Bowling Center and served as team captain for four years. In the league he received awards for high game, high average and game and received a watch for 100 pins over average single game.
Christopher Wild
Also awarded a $500 scholarship was Christopher Wild, the 18-year-old son of Tom and Tracy Wild of Auburn. Wild graduated from Auburn High School 98th in a class of 304 with a cumulative average of 84.769. He plans to attend Alfred State College where he will major in heavy equipment operation.
Wild has been a member of Auburn Youth Bowling for 13 years at Starlite Lanes where he served as team captain for all 13 years and averaged 139 this season. In the league, he has received numerous awards and was first place in the Auburn Youth Leaders 3-6-9 Tournament.
