Renters at an Elbridge mobile home park could soon become the park's owners.
Among millions of dollars in state financing for housing projects announced Thursday, the state Housing Finance Agency has approved a $2.69 million loan to the residents of the Champion Mobile Park in the Town of Elbridge to allow the residents to purchase the park and operate it on a non-for-profit basis.
The idea, according to a news release from the office of state Sen. John DeFrancisco, is to provide long-term security for the residents by keeping site rents affordable.
The Housing Finance Agency is providing 64 percent of the financing, and ROC USA, a nonprofit that seeks to expand resident ownership of manufactured housing communities, will provide the remaining financing.
The approval of more than $9 million in financing to create and preserve 245 units of affordable housing in Onondaga County, was made by the Housing Finance Agency and its subsidiary, the state Affordable Housing Corporation.
