The northern tip of Cayuga County is being hit by lake effect snow showers that could produce up to a foot of accumulation by the end of the day today, the National Weather Service is forecasting.
The southern half of the county, while dry this morning, will not escape the winter precipitation. The NWS expects the lake effect system to drop over the Finger Lakes region tonight, and become particularly organized Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. The result could be several inches of snow for communities near Cayuga, Owasco and Seneca lakes.
Monday's forecast for northern Cayuga County calls fro 3 to 7 inches of snow, with an additional 2 to 4 inches overnight and another 2 to 4 inches during the day Tuesday.
The southern half of the county can expect to see 1 to 2 inches of snow during the day today, with most of the snow starting after 1 p.m. Another 1 to 3 inches are possible overnight and 1 to 2 inches are forecast for the day on Tuesday.
