Politicians should learn a lesson from President Bush

Monday, January 12, 2009 11:10 PM EST

All's well that ends well. Presently in the good ol' USA not much is going well but Bush and Cheney exiting the premises of the White House for good bodes well for the future. No longer will we have to hear:
• Let's make those tax cuts (for the wealthy) permanent.

• We're winning the war against terror.

• We've got to stay in Iraq to protect our freedom and the Iraqis.

• The Social Security system is broke and needs to be fixed and privatization is the answer.

• Water-boarding is not torture, and I wouldn't condone it if it was.

• The American people want it done.

• The Iraqi people need our presence, and democracy will be there for them.

Yes, if we've heard these hidden messages once, we've heard them 1,000 times from those neo-con nincompoops whose main concern during their eight-year duration, was to make the likes of the military industrial complex, Halliburton and the oil barons filthy rich at the expense of the average Joe.

Instead of exiting gracefully out of the White House, they should be drummed out in disgrace for doing not only a disservice to their country, but for failing to live up to their oaths of office to be public servants of the people, by the people, for the people.

Their own thoroughly disgusting and warped interests for making the rich richer and throwing all the non-rich under the bus to make it happen calls to the high heavens for justice.

They should have been impeached years earlier, but all the gutless and non-caring representatives in the House and Senate let them continue to do as they pleased, regardless of the consequences.

This sad chapter in American history should be a lesson to all that this can never happen again.

All politicians need to be sent a message loud and clear that if they can't stand up to obvious wrong-doing and put an end to it in a hurry, they should expect the people they are representing to be up in arms and boiling over, that they voted them in, and go to the polls next election to vote them out.

" To the editorial board- I can't belive there isn't a different letter writer worthy of some space on the editorial page... Or is this really the best that Cayuga County has to offer?? Good grief. Murray- Please for the love of Pete, give us a break already. I'm glad I'm successful in business and can afford to pay more taxes than most people earn, but stop with the "rich-bashing" you and your pals like to engage in. If the "rich people" like me didn't employ people, you'd be unemployed...with more time to write your drivel. Nevermind, we'll keep up the good work and keep you going. We've got broad shoulders. When Obama and the liberal slop hogs come looking for money, they'll be glad there a few of us business owner's left to steal some more from. "

" The reality is that most political leaders do not want what's best for the masses, and we hardly even expect it anymore. We can change leaders , but will their motivations ever change. Could you say Bush was trying to make America a better place for most of us? That is really what the job entails for me. If we want progress, we need a sensible, practical and thoughtful leader. Lets hope Obama is as different as he seems. Renew a better precedent for president. "
