NEW YORK -- Gov. David Paterson has announced plans to legalize same-sex marriages in New York.
He hopes to tap into the momentum of other states that have recently allowed same-sex couples to wed.
New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who is openly gay, stood by Paterson's side during Thursday's announcement. Supporters cheered.
Paterson noted that it's the same bill the Democrat-controlled state Assembly passed in 2007. It died in the Senate, where the Republican majority kept it from going to a vote.
Opponents are vowing to make sure this one fails as well.

THANK YOU, for this awesomely TRUE post!!! My 'wife' and I, were married back in September, though not legally, we went through a whole ceremony, reception, with friends & family. We're just waiting for it to become legal, and as you said... "who are we hurting"??? We wouldn't be taking anything 'away' from heterosexual married couples at all! If they dont like seeing a same sex couple walking hand n hand, then dont look ! And yes, the bible is VERY outdated, and... exactally who wrote the bible?...Mere men, from year to year, expressing their "opinions", not "facts". "

not to leave out the other poor helpless descriminated upon folks caught up in our awful, unfair welfare. they should get a BIG FAT RAISE. Every month when you come to TAKE my hard earned money & food stamps you get the depo shot. blam. one quickey and your gone with lets say, $2K a month.
