The Southern Cayuga baseball team earned its first victory of the season, defeating Tyburn 11-7 Monday.
Joe Rocker pitched the first 3 2-3 innings, giving up two hits for the Chiefs, Kyle Milliman picked up the win and Steve Hewitt earned the save with two strikeouts.
Southern Cayuga's Clayton Crout contributed three hits and three runs, Milliman added one hit and two RBIs, Rocker posted two hits, two RBIs and two runs, and Zach Vanostrand finished with two hits and two RBIs while throwing out three Tyburn baserunners.
Pacing the Crusaders, Cody Cottrell went the distance, throwing six strikeouts. He also had two RBIs and scored twice.
Pulaski 5, Weedsport 4
Nick Topichak suffered the loss, pitching 6 2-3 innings with 13 strikeouts. Overall, 25 strikeouts were recorded between the two teams. Weedsport tied the game 3-3 late before Pulaski pulled off a seventh-inning, two-out suicide squeeze to take the lead. The Warriors had the tying run on base in the bottom of the inning but a popout ended their chances.
C.J. Chase had one hit and one RBI with a run scored, Justin Rose went 2-for-4, Jordan Stott doubled and had one RBI, P.J. Piascik contributed one hit and one run, and Tucker Beardsley finished with one hit and scored twice.
The Warriors (8-8) play in Cato-Meridian today.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Jordan-Elbridge 18, Homer 2
Carrie-Joe Farrugia tallied four goals and five assists to lead the Eagles.
Also scoring for Jordan-Elbridge were Emily Dillon who earned three goals and one assist, Chelsea Maitland contributed three goals, Amanda Wheeler added two goals, Kate Dungey and Hanne Bailey each posted one goal and one assist, Allie Donohue, Emily Bates, Mallory Snyder and Megan Peters each scored one goal, Ella Thorpe recorded three assists and Kelsey Armani finished with one assist.
Kelsey Richardson collected 12 saves for the Eagles.
Jordan-Elbridge (8-6) hosts Cazenovia Wednesday.
TRACK AND FIELD
IAC Steeplechase and Pentathalon
Moravia's Jason Phillips finished second overall in the 3000m steeplechase, breaking the school record of 10:46 set in 1995, with a time of 10:13.75.
“This was the first time he ran in this event,” Blue Devils coach Jan Hunsinger said. “It was definitely a goal of his to break the record but I think he was even surprised to see how well he did. He broke it by quite a bit.”
Moravia's Claire Hunsinger scored a personal-best 2,248 points in her first pentathalon of the season, an improvement by 100 points from last year.
Hunsinger finished the 100m hurdles in 19:73, jumped a 4-9 in the high jump, had a 14-5 in the long jump, earned a personal best in the shot put (30-7) and took a 2:49.31 in the 800m. Both Phillips and Hunsinger qualified for the state qualifier, which will be held June 4 in Binghamton.
Moravia travels to Dryden Thursday and Friday for the IAC championships.
SOFTBALL
Pulaski 9, Weedsport 3, game one
Pulaski 8, Weedsport 2, game two
The Warriors held the lead in game two of the doubleheader, 2-0, until the sixth inning before giving up six runs.
Libby Marsden went 2-for-3 in game one with one run, one double, one triple and one RBI, Allison Chase added one hit and one run, and Samantha Beckwith was 2-for-3 with one run.
In the second game, Marsden contributed another hit and Chase finished with one hit and one RBI.
The Warriors host Port Byron in their final home game of the season Thursday.
BOYS GOLF

The Eagles' Jake Melfi carded a 46 and Aaron Iddings shot a 50.

The Maroons suffered their first loss of the season, as they were paced by Megan Cahill who shot a 44 and Larissa Carter finished with a 50.
JV BASEBALL
Jordan-Elbridge 7, Pulaski 0
Matt Gasparek tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts for the Eagles (7-4).
Leading Jordan-Elbridge, Liam Corfield doubled, tripled and had three RBIs, Brennan Barrigar contributed two hits and two RBIs, and Dylan Sylvester added two hits (double). Pat Kelly made a diving catch with the bases loaded in the seventh to preserve the shutout.
