CORTLAND -- Cortland High School is getting a $15,000 gym makeover, compliments of a fitness challenge supported by the NBA.
Cortland won the competition among thousands of schools that entered the Get Fit By Finals Challenge. That's a program aimed at curbing childhood obesity and reversing the trend of inactivity among kids.
From February through June, Body By Milk and the NBA challenged teens to log on to bodybymilk.com to sign up for the challenge.
Once online, they got daily tips and tools from the NBA and frequent "mini-challenges" encouraging them to show how they were getting fit before school finals.
Students will celebrate the victory on Thursday with former NBA star Derrick Coleman, who played for Jim Boeheim at Syracuse.
