State Assemblyman Gary Finch was joined by Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb on Friday in calling for the firing of comedian David Letterman for what Finch called “unacceptable and outrageous comments” Letterman made about Palin, her 14-year-old daughter and “all women” on his television show.
Finch said that he sent a letter to CBS television President and CEO Leslie Moonves asking that Letterman's contract with the network be terminated.
On his show Monday Letterman joked that Palin's daughter had been “knocked up” during a New York Yankees game by baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
Palin attended a recent Yankees game with her 14-year-old daughter, Willow, but Letterman later said that the joke referred to Palin's adult daughter, Bristol, who was the subject of a great deal of media attention during the 2008 presidential campaign when it was revealed that the then-17-year-old was pregnant and unmarried.
Finch said that he was outraged by Letterman's remarks and said that the issue is an important one that he needed to address as a New York legislator.
Finch said he didn't find Letterman's explanation of his joke acceptable and believes that Willow Palin “was bullied” by Letterman.
In his letter to CBS, Finch noted that Sarah Palin had recently been the guest of honor during Auburn's celebration of the anniversary of Alaskan statehood and that he was outraged that Letterman took advantage of Palin's visit to New York state to subject her family to “outrageous comments” on national television.
“That Mr. Letterman thought it somehow acceptable to make light of the serious crime of statutory rape and demean the 14-year-old daughter of a sitting Governor whose family was visiting our state is outrageous,” Finch said in a news release.
“To make the situation more egregious,” Finch wrote to CBS, “during Mr. Letterman's explanation of his remarks, he took the opportunity to continue making degrading comments towards women.”
In a new release, Kolb said that he also sent a letter to CBS's CEO.
“Mr. Moonves should recognize that Mr. Letterman's vulgar remark reflects poorly on the corporation he has the responsibility of leading,” Kolb said.
“I also asked Mr. Moonves to consider the demoralizing impact of Mr. Letterman's comments on the women who work at CBS and are likely troubled that such behavior is allowed to occur in a corporate workplace.”

Where were the classless jokes about Obama's mother and family? She got pregnant out of wed-lock? Had problems with her mother... and the father...well that could have added a ton of material for Dave?
I'm not saying that Dave mixes his politics with his comedy? but in a week where you had Good ol Rev. Wright saying "Dem JEWS aint gonna let me see him" Letterman had more than enough material to choose from rather than a ill-concieved unprepared joke about some young kids.....?
Doesnt dave have a son out of wedlock? Does this mean Letterman thinks tina fey looks like a slut?
Simple.. Letterman should have known the daughter at the game. I didnt vote for M/Palin because of they're views.. nothing personal and I think Obama himself would wince at the comments...but a joke is a joke and you have to learn to live with it...even if it's comming from an old man trying to better his ratings...Let's all move on "

I am not a republican, or a fan of this sitting Govs' politics, but then I don't see this as a political issue- it's a human issue.
To sexualize children,(and any of you that HAVE an 18 year old will agree, 18 IS still a child!) male or female, is to participate in a demoralizing, and dangerous mentality that has already victimized more young peole than I can bear to count. "

Rush Limbaugh has been a drug abuser who has called for the incarceration of ALL drug abusers until he was caught. He takes an island vacation with his buddies and a bottle of Viagra deliberately mislabeled and later jokes about how they came to be in his possession. So which behavior was actually worst, a joke or the use of women as vacation toys and the lock up of all drug abusers but radio personalities? Is this the leader of the “New” Republican Party and someone who young women should admire and look for in a relationship? "

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE LOVE LETTERMAN! HE ROCKS. Palin, on the hand, does look and act like a 'sluty flight attendant', and her wannabe silly excuse of a husband...todd...stay in alaska and stay out of the media. FACE IT...AMERICA DID NOT VOTE FOR YOU FOR A REASON. And that is no joke.
I must say, I've always wanted to visit Alaska. But after seeing who they elected as their gov.....forget it.
DAVE ROCKS! "

The fact that he actually took the time to write this asinine letter while the legislature is in shambles is ridiculous. Maybe he isn’t aware of it, since the legislature is a total utter disgrace and cannot stop their whining for two seconds to realize what is happening in the real world, but if these guys in both the Assembly and Senate don’t get their act together, lots of people are going to be in trouble. With the end of this year’s session approaching, there are numerous laws and statutes that are set to expire, ones with significant ramifications for NYS. Stop acting like spoiled children and get your stuff together.
And anyone with half a brain could realize Letterman was making fun of Bristol Palin. More than half the people that have heard this joke probably weren’t aware that Palin was at a yankee game with her 14 year old daughter. When he told the joke, i’m pretty sure everyone probably thought of Bristol Palin right away. And yes, Bristol is fair game now. She is an adult who has chosen to be in the public spotlight by going on the cover of People, sitting down for interviews with Matt Lauer and others in the media.
Letterman was going after a steroid-using, post-season choke artist and the 18 year old daughter of a crazy, spotlight loving right wing blowhard who thinks global warming is a sham and who has no business even running State government. Sounds like she should run for NYS Senate or Assembly.
Letterman is an institution in show business and I’m sure Les Moonves got a good chuckle when he got that letter from Mr. Kolb. The antics of Kolb’s colleagues leaves him with no clout and no soapbox to stand upon. How can he call himself a “responsible parent” when he sits in a chamber with a bunch of spoiled children and instead of acting in a manner befitting his office, he does nothing. The Senate may be getting a lot of ink these days for being filled with backstabbing, dirty politicians, but this letter proves that instead of taking the high ground and focusing on matters of importance, the Assembly has chosen to be no different.
So here’s a suggestion to everyone in the Senate, Assembly, and the Governor’s Office - Grow up and focus on the real issues out there that matter to the people of New York. We’re getting tired of being the laughingstock of America. " "
