Ready to play against the strongest lacrosse competition possible, Auburn's Connor Entenmann decided to try out for the Under Armour All-America Underclassmen Games. What he got out of it was the experience of a lifetime.

“I saw an ad online for the tryouts and decided to give it a shot,” said Entenmann, who will be a high school senior in the fall. “I thought it would be good to try out and get the exposure from college coaches.”
Not sure what his chances were, Entenmann competed against nearly 150 other underclassmen at SUNY Cortland before making the cut as one of 24 lacrosse players for the Upstate New York team.
“You never know what the coach's goal is when you go out for something like this,” Entenmann said. “I was confident in my abilities but didn't want to get too cocky in case I got cut.”
Entenmann traveled to Baltimore for the games last weekend, where the Upstate New York team went 3-1, defeating the New England, Philadelphia and Baltimore teams, before losing to Long Island in the championship game. As one of the leading scorers on the team, Entenmann managed five goals and five assists in the four games.
“We meshed really well as a team,” Entenmann said. “I did my best and I am really proud of myself.”
This past season, Entenmann led the Maroons in scoring and was a team captain.
But this experience was a bit different. Unlike high school, the offense didn't always run through Entenmann, who was surrounded by players at his skill level.
“Playing on this team showed me that I can help contribute to the team without the ball always being on my stick,” Entenmann said. “This was playing at a totally different degree - of how much I didn't have possession of the ball. It keeps the pressure off of you and keeps you fresh.”
After a taste of the competition at the Under Armour Underclassmen Games, Entenmann is hoping to make the North squad next season and play against the South in the All-America Senior All-Star game. The possibility of playing in that game will depend on how well he does his senior year with the Maroons and how well he does representing the sport itself.
“It would be a big honor to be able to play in that game,” Entenmann said. “To get on the team they look at how successful you are all summer and in high school, along with having the best character to play on the team and represent the game on television. I know that it will be important for me to have a successful season at Auburn this year, be a good team leader and put up the numbers.”
With the new lessons he learned while playing in Baltimore, Entenmann feels he is better equipped to lead the Maroons to victory, and better prepared for a future playing lacrosse. Entenmann is currently being scouted by Cornell, Brown, Hofstra, Bucknell and Georgetown.
“This proved to me that I can compete with the best, which is a big confidence booster,” Entenmann said. “I was blessed for this opportunity and for the support of my family through it. I am proud to be able to represent Auburn High School lacrosse and the city of Auburn as well. I know now that I don't have to have the ball on my stick to lead my team to victory. There is more than one way to help a team be successful, like letting others make plays. So with that in mind, I really am looking forward to my senior season.”
