After back-to-back walks in the bottom of the ninth inning, State College's David Rubinstein ended the game with a single to bring in the winning run for the Spikes in their 4-3 win over the Auburn Doubledays Thursday.
After an 18-minute rain delay, the Doubledays started with a leadoff double by Chris Hopkins.
Hopkins later scored to make it 1-0, but State College battled back and jumped to a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second. The Doubledays later scored two runs in the sixth to tie the score.
The two teams battled back-and-fourth until Rubinstein's single that closed the game out.
Doubledays starting pitcher Evan Crawford went four innings, allowed seven hits, gave up three runs, all earned, walked three batters and sat down two on strikes. Willy Mendez relieved Crawford for two innings, giving up a hit. Austin Armstrong earned the loss going 2 1-3 innings, allowing a hit, an earned run, walked one batter and striking out two. Casey Beck pitched the final 1-3 inning, walking one batter and striking out another.
Karim Turkamani started the Doubledays' rally in the sixth inning when he singled to left field.
After a Hopkins foul out, Eric Eiland roped a triple to score Turkamani. Welinton Ramirez then flew out to centerfield, but scored Eiland on the sacrifice fly. Brad Glenn then went down on strikes.
After two innings of scoreless baseball, Glenn started things off in the top of the ninth with a single, but was caught stealing.
Designated hitter Jack Murphy popped out and after a pitching change, Kyle Gilligan also popped out to end the rally.
