Republicans aren't helping the country

Friday, July 3, 2009 11:01 PM EDT

I would like to offer my views as a former Republican in listening to the news stations in regards to CEOs and bank executives receiving large bonuses while they run their respective corporations into the ground, it is pure ludicrous at best. Several years ago the CEO for Exxon-Mobil received a whopping $430 million bonus/severance package and not a wink from the Republican Party.
Since President Obama entered into office he has quickly jumped in, sought advice from both parties and of course, no solutions from the Republicans, with the exception of more tax breaks for the rich. President Obama stands out on all key issues to include capping bonuses, lowering taxes for middle and lower income families, addressing health care, education and the biggest item, oversight of corporations and banks.

I have voted for a Republican president but once (Ronald Reagan), and he also backed the rich and screwed the poor. Where has the party of Abe Lincoln gone to? The Republican Party needs serious soul searching and while doing this remind themselves that they are in office to serve the people, not themselves.

In closing, I'd like to add that if you enjoy reading about Bernie Madoff, greedy CEOs and bank executives, then by all means vote Republican.

If you want clear solutions to the tough issues, then vote Democrat. They are clearly attacking the tough issues of our times with honor, dignity and for the people of the USA.

" The debt we have now, as I see it, is caused by the war, TARP, and the stimulus bill. They are about equal in financial cost. If you consider the possibility of a health care program and climate bill, the war cost will be less than 20% of our debt.

If they pass this climate bill, it will be so loaded with pork, it will make the stimulus bill look pork free. The only way it will pass is to load it with something for everyone in Congress. Let's hope it can be stopped. "

" We already have huge debts (and are beholden to China for the lion's share of it, while they flood our market with cheap crap and produce we could be producing here, hence putting more Americans out of work) due to the WAR, thanks to George W -- I am no fan of Obama, but our previous President is the one who ran up our debt to where it is today; anything more is no more than icing on a rich and robust "cake" of debt. " Andy, where are the tax cuts for the poor and middle class? Whatch out! Tax increases are heading straight at you. Remember the tax on smokes? and the soon to be taxes on the energy you use,and the soon to be tax on your employee health care, and the everlasting trillions of debt that Obama will leave for the poor children and middle class to pay? Wise up "

" We didn't get rid of Saddam -- it was a WASTE of OUR money and just caused more deaths of innocents and more messed up Americans coming home, either dead, injured or psychologically damaged for life. The war is an OBSCENE waste of our money, no less than bonuses to CEOs of messed up industries. At least they aren't out killing people themselves. "

" not that I am happy about a war..but atleast the money was a bit useful as to getting rid of Saddam!

But giving money for CEO's to Bonus BIG is simply BAD judgement! "

" "Imagine your power bill going up by $200 a month.

Progress Energy spokesman Mike Hughes said Thursday that it's a possibility under President Barack Obama's energy plan that narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week.

The bill, which Obama has said will reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil and clean the air, calls for a reduction of carbon emissions by 17 percent by 2020, and for 20 percent of the nation's energy to be renewable – such as wind and solar – by 2020.

The bill also includes a consumer protection to keep down energy prices.

But Hughes said it does not add up.

"If there are fundamental changes to national policy, particularly as it pertains to electricity, then the cost is going up," he said.

Hughes said that because there is no proven technology to meet the proposed federal standards, it's unclear how high rates might go. Based on congressional debate, Hughes said it could be drastic.

"There were estimates from a few pennies or a few dollars a month, and estimates I heard all the way to $4,000 a year for a typical household," Hughes said. "It's probably somewhere in the middle.""

No proven technology to meet those standards. This means that there could be tremendous costs involved in research, or pay penalties to pay for the standards you cannot meet.

Someone is going to make a fortune in trading carbon credits. Wait until that comes out. "

" I am not committed to one side of the aile or the other, but to stop blaming Bush? He got us into this mess, and this time he didn't have mommy and daddy to bail him out. This IS his mess. He started with a surplus, and spent, expanded government, and spending a fortune on a war of lies. For 6 of his 8 years, the democrats could do nothing to stop him because they were the minority, and GWB used scare tactics trying to make dems appear weak if they protested. If the conservative mantra is true, he should have created jobs and paid off the huge debt he created. It obviously didn't work. Clinton's era was prosperous.
I can't imagine what would have happened had Bush and Obama not bailed out the banks? That could have been a national collapse for all of us.
Obama is trying to get this country back on track after 8 years of fear tactical fascism. There are some republicans happy that they didn't win the house, because then they would have to clean up the mess GWB left. "

" I have no problem with anyone attacking my source, but back up criticism of content. Fact is Obama did not adhere to the law he co-sponsored. The source does not change fact. Bush is no more responsible for the economy than any other politician. And if Bush's huge spending bothers anyone, they should be outraged at Obama's spending. Stop blaming Bush, it's just a cop out. "

" GWB pumped plenty of money into the same system that BO is without any accountability or restrictions on bonuses. We have just lived through 8 years of my-way-or-the-highway fascism, huge spending and tax cuts to the rich with the economy dumping jobs and stock market collapse.
Tax cuts are all a big lie anyway. GDB would hand out a tax cut, then the state and local governments have to increase taxes to backfill the corners cut from the government. In the end, there is no tax relief. I have yet to see where any of the tax cuts to the rich have helped anyone but the rich.
Exxon-Mobil? No bailout money has been given to them. Bush would be giving them tax breaks on their record profits which would be taking money away from us. Maybe you get your facts from Glenn Beck? Beck is a proven liar. He was caught bold face lying. He admits that he doesn’t check facts for his radio show. He will say anything to promote himself and his right-wing extreme agenda (whatever that is). See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB3cC87uPmw&NR=1 "

The White House press reporters are mad as hell with Obama's town hall meetings. It's a way to control the media. This guy is bad. "

Last Week Obama fired Inspector General Gerald Walpin- Check that, he called him and told him he had one day to resign.

The LAW for firing Inspector General is:

30 days notice - notify congress - give exact reasons

A LAW SPONSORED BY THEN SENATOR BARACK OBAMA

to protect the inspector from political intimidation so they can investigate frauds

Walpin was investigating fomer NBA player Kevin Johnson (friend of Obama, mayor of Sacramento) for misusing federal money for Americorps (just under 1 million)

On the HELP legislation there is: Teddy Kennedy, Jackie Norris (Michelle Obama's Chief of staff) - these are the ones that gave americorps the monies...

this is the first firing my friends, and it will not be the last...

this IS fascism...

Obama IS a fascist.

the video is from BECK the other nite, there are more out there - you just wont find them in the MSM...

" With the money the government is pouring into Exxon-Mobil, we should be outraged! Get real. Are they failing, are we putting money into them. Great example, they are thriving, and the government isn't scr*wing them up. How about Obama and his transparency? One bill out of eleven posted, good job. The only we can keep unemployment under 9%, is to pass this stimulus bill now. 9.5% now. How about the detainees maybe being held indefinitely, closing Gitmo? With his massive spending, we will have the largest tax increases in history.

This climate bill has provisions that, in selling your home, you will have to meet energy standards or pay a penalty. Global warming is a hoax and the temp. has actually decreased.

BTW, there wasn't a wink from the Democrats either. "
