SYRACUSE -- Mourners will gather to remember a 47-year-old state trooper killed in an off-duty cycling accident.
Trooper John Gorke was killed Friday when a car hit him from behind while he was riding with a friend on Route 20 about seven miles from his Jamesville home.
The 20-year-old driver said he lost control of his car as he tried to steer around the other bicyclist. No tickets were issued but authorities are continuing their investigation.
Gorke was a 19-year veteran assigned to Troop T in Syracuse.
The funeral Tuesday is at the Newell-Fay Funeral Home in Manlius.
