The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office is investigating the theft of more than $19,000 worth of sports equipment and tools in Sennett.
Police said that burglars removed wood siding from a private storage barn on Route 20 in Sennett sometime during the last week of June and stole a large quantity of high-grade downhill and cross-country skis and skiing equipment such as goggles, helmets, poles and clothing.
Snowshoes, tennis equipment and tennis clothing were also taken, along with telescopes, telescope accessories, a pneumatic drill, circular saw, jigsaw, air compressor and various hand tools such as hammers, vice grips and pliers.
Police said most of the merchandise had been stored in clear or black plastic totes, and that a large storage box that fits on top of a car was also stolen.
Sheriff's Office Lt. Joseph Weeks said that detectives have pursued several leads since the burglary took place and that it has proven helpful in the past to wait a period of time before releasing details in hopes that the public can help solve crimes of this nature.
Police ask anyone with any information about this burglary to call detectives at 253-1610.
