LYONS-- More than 200 people will be out of work when a Cleveland-based company closes its two plants in an upstate New York town.
Parker Hannifin Corp. has announced it will close its facilities in Lyons in Wayne County by the end of this year. The company specializes in refrigeration and air conditioning as well as automotive and commercial dryers.

The plants in Lyons, midway between Rochester and Syracuse, employ 230 workers.

The company says it's closing the plants because of global competition and changes in technology.

Parker Hannifin officials say some employees may be transferred within the company.

The company said it will sell or discontinue two product lines produced at the Lyons plants, while two other product lines will be manufactured at other facilities.

" Come on now, that is a crying shame. I hope the elected officials in Wayne County have done everything possible to convince Parker Hannifin not to close, or to try some other alternative. This can't keep happening to American workers. Come on Parker Hannifin, there is no other alternative at all? You don't think your employees deserve better? Invest in the future, retool, upgrade, cut back on hours, ask employees for ideas, get your R&D dept to brainstorm, anything that could keep from closing. I bet they are willing to above and beyond to save their jobs, are you? I sure hope another company can come along and pick up the pieces and put those skilled workers back on a payroll. This is why we need to stop supporting the WALMARTing of America and buy AMERICAN made products to keep our economy above water. There are several websites that list American companies to buy from. Spend that extra $.75 or $1.00 to BUY AMERICAN and support American workers. Get active in your community to keep manufacturing and small business alive. Buy local when you can. "
