A 28-year-old Union Springs man has been charged with two counts of felony vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated and other charges for a car crash in which he and a passenger were injured more than a month ago, the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.
Deputies have accused Chad M. Wilson, of 25 Homer St., of being intoxicated while driving a tan 2002 Honda Civic on June 5.

Wilson flipped the vehicle after losing control a curve on Skillet Road in Fleming at about 1 a.m., deputies said.

Wilson and a passenger, Danielle Gilfus, 23, of Union Springs, were both extricated from the vehicle and transported to University Hospital with serious injuries after a newspaper delivery person came upon the crash and called 911, deputies said.

Wilson and Gilfus have both been released from the hospital and are recovering from their injuries, deputies said.

Wilson is charged with two counts of first-degree felony vehicular assault. One count is for having a blood alcohol content of more than .18 and the second is for having a previous driving while ability impaired conviction. The legal BAC limit is .08

Wilson was also charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors, and failure to keep right and not using a seat belt, both traffic infractions.

Wilson was arrested Tuesday, arraigned in the Town of Fleming Court and released on his own recognizance. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 21.

" every DWI and DUI should be locked up including boating. if you're one that may think they should have a second chance or you drive while under and think it's OK then on your first offence - we should take your license for a year or two - second offence up to a year in county jail and an enormous fine, plus driving with out a license then remove your license forever. and if another person gets hurt or killed NO mercy because you have then commited murder. se ya mr. wilson "

" Not to worry, In Cayuga County, you can drive drunk, drive reckless, speed,go off the road, hit a tree and leave your friend to die in the car,get 60 days in jail, probation and treated as a youthful offender and not end up with a record. I don't think Wilson should worry, he's in Cayuga County.(in reality Wilson belongs in jail) "
