AUBURN -- An Auburn prostitute who advertised her services on craigslist.com and escorts.com was sentenced in Cayuga County Court Thursday to one year in the Cayuga County Jail.
Ashley Byrne, 22, formerly of Perrine Avenue, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor prostitution charge for attempting to sell her services to undercover officers.
Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann previously said that three officers haggled with Byrne in a room at the Days Inn on Auburn's William Street for nearly 10 minutes before agreeing on a payment of $200 per man.
Byrne also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child because her child was present during an earlier act of prostitution unrelated to the undercover sting, Budelmann said.
Byrne, who was also sentenced for fourth-degree felony grand larceny, will have to pay more than $4,900 in restitution to her former employer, Express Mart, for stealing money from a security deposit bag. Byrne originally told the Auburn Police Department that she was robbed while taking the money to the bank.
Byrne's lawyer, Jonis Strods, asked for straight probation with 5.5 months already served in jail because Byrne had apologized for her actions and was attempting to get her life back on track.
Given Byrne's criminal history, which includes 10 arrests and three youthful offender adjudications, Cayuga County Judge Thomas Leone said he believed more jail time was necessary.
"Somewhere along the line, someone has to whack you in the head with a two-by-four," Leone said. "At some point, enough is enough ... If you screw up again you're looking at prison."
Charges against Byrne's husband, Andrew Byrne, 25, are still pending. He is accused of helping run the prostitution ring and aiding in the grand larceny.
