The National Republican Congressional Committee is out with digital ads hitting 26 House Democrats, including U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei, just hours after the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee announced Maffei and other members were added to its Frontline program.
The digital ads and the DCCC's announcement come one day after it was reported that U.S. Rep. Greg Walden, chairman of the NRCC, met with some potential 24th Congressional District challengers in Syracuse over the weekend.
Republicans have made unseating Maffei in 2014 a top priority after he defeated Ann Marie Buerkle in November.
“National Democrats are absolutely correct in their fear that Dan Maffei’s return to Congress will be temporary," NRCC spokesman Ian Prior said in a statement. "In a time when central New Yorkers want cooperation and common sense, Maffei shows neither. His 96% party line voting record and his decision to hand out midnight bonuses to staff as he left office in 2010, all while his constituents continue to suffer in a stagnant economy, show just how inadequate a Congressman Dan Maffei is."
Maffei represents the 24th Congressional District, which includes all of Cayuga, Onondaga and Wayne counties, plus the western part of Oswego County.
