Another Washington Nationals draft pick is expected to make their Auburn Doubledays debut tonight.

Jeff Gardner was signed by the Nationals, assigned to the Doubledays and is expected to make his professional debut batting third and playing left field against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Falcon Park Monday evening. He will wear No. 43.

Gardner, Washington's eighth-round selection earlier this month, was named the American Athletic Conference player of the year after batting .313 with 20 doubles, nine home runs and 68 RBI in 65 games with Louisville this season.

A Louisville, Kentucky native, Gardner played all four years of his collegiate career with the Cardinals.

Pitching Matchup

Jefry Rodriguez is scheduled to make his second start with the Doubledays this season.

The 6-5 right-hander allowed one hit, four walks and an earned run over five innings against Mahoning Valley Tuesday. He struck out two.

Rodriguez, one of the Nationals' top pitching prospects, was 0-2 with a 6.88 ERA in four starts with Hagerstown (Class A) earlier this season.

The Doubledays will be up against the Scrappers' Cameron Hill. The 6-1 right-hander allowed two hits, a walk and a run over one inning of relief against Auburn Thursday.
