WWE Summerslam has a stacked card for Sunday's pay-per-view — one of the company's biggest shows of the year. And there are two marquee women's matches that should excite pro wrestling fans.
Alexa Bliss will defend the Raw Womens' Championship against Sasha Banks. The Smackdown Women's Championship will be up for grabs in a match between Naomi, the current title holder, and Natalya.
ALEXA BLISS (champion) vs. SASHA BANKS
Analysis: Bliss is on quite a run. She's arguably the top superstar in the women's division at the moment. Before coming over to Raw, she was a two-time Smackdown women's champion. It didn't take her long to capture the Raw women's title after moving over to the flagship show.
But there are a few things working against her in this match. Her title reign suggests it could be time for a shakeup. She's had the belt for nearly four months. WWE has had some ridiculously long women's title reigns in recent years. That trend shouldn't continue.
Sasha Banks is a fan favorite and Summerslam is being held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn crowd is one of the best of the year. The passion won't cool all weekend long.
This is also a chance at redemption for Banks. Two years ago, she lost the NXT women's title at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn.
With Bayley's injury, Banks could be in line for a longer run with the Raw Women's Championship. She's held the title three times, but never for more than a month. Her three title reigns lasted a combined 75 days. Bliss has held the title for at least 110 days in her first reign.
It's time for a change, and what better place than Brooklyn? Sasha Banks should win the Raw Women's Championship and hold it for the remainder of 2017.
WINNER: Sasha Banks
NAOMI (champion) vs. NATALYA
Analysis: Let's cut to the chase: Natalya should win this. It's nothing against Naomi. She's been a great champion. The glow gimmick is fun! She earned this title reign. But Natalya has paid many dues. There have been times when she was so far out of the title picture you wondered if she would ever get back. And here she is with a golden opportunity. WWE would be silly not to reward her longevity.
Natalya is the longest tenured women's superstar in WWE. Her pro wrestling career dates back to 2000. She signed with WWE in 2007.
Based on her experience, you would think she would have multiple title reigns. But that's just not true. What's more surprising is that she's only held a title once: the WWE Divas Championship, which she won at Survivor Series in November 2010. Her title reign lasted 70 days.
She's waited a long time for an opportunity. Anyone who has watched "Total Divas" knows this. It's time to reward her.
And what a moment it could be. Natalya isn't getting any younger. She's 35 and while she's still motoring along, this could be her last shot at a title. So why not? Do it for Natalya, WWE. Do it for the fans.
