With Valentine's Day on Wednesday, a few events in the Cayuga County area this weekend will celebrate the lovers' holiday:
❤ A Sweetheart Snowshoe and Bird-Friendly Chocolate Tastings will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Montezuma Audubon Center, 2295 Route 89, Savannah. Participants will search for birds of prey and songbirds on a one-mile snowshoe adventure, then sample chocolates and discover how they help conserve habitats where breeding warblers spend the winter months. ❤ A Valentine's Day special will be served from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Auburn VFW Post 1975, 44 E. Genesee St., Auburn. Ribeye, shrimp kabobs and more will be available. A donation of $15 and reservations by Feb. 9 are requested. For more information, call (315) 253-5890.
❤ A Valentine's Day dance with DJ Brad Smith will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Frank Calimeri Post No. 9, 46 Clark St., Auburn.
❤ The Rockin' Rockettes will perform and Beth Miller will read poetry of the heart at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, in the Stryker Homes Community Room, 2 Loop Road, Auburn. The Rockettes are a group of local women who've been performing together for years: Bea O'Hora, Ellie Hado, Joanne Iocco, Sue Brezee, Alex Ewanechko, Jean Shutter, Chris Chalupnicki, Wynn Donofrio and Denise Frederick. There will also be door prizes and refreshments.
