Two Auburn community theater groups were recognized at the Theatre Association of New York State's annual festival Nov. 18-20 at Cayuga Community College.

The Auburn Players Community Theatre presented "Almost, Maine" and Harlequin Productions presented "Benches" before adjudicators at the festival, which also featured performances by eight other New York state theater groups.

At the festival awards banquet Saturday, Harlequin received three awards for "Benches," while the Players received a total of 15 awards for "The Giver," "Moon Over Buffalo," "Avenue Q" and "Almost, Maine."

At the next day's awards ceremony, performers Becky White (Harlequin) and Bill Daugherty, Heather McNeil and Stephanie Figer (Players) were recognized with individual Discretionary Awards for their work, while "Almost, Maine" won additional Discretionary Awards for ensemble performance and scenic design.

Michael Antico was also recognized with one of four Outstanding Performance trophies. And the Players' production of "Almost, Maine" won Best Production of the festival, and will go on to the Eastern States Theatre Festival in April in Wilmington, Delaware.
