Few objects tend to tug at children's hearts as much as trucks.
From miniature Matchbox cars to larger-than-life construction equipment, vehicles of all sizes and persuasions capture the eyes and imaginations of children of all ages.
And for the past 19 years, the Skaneateles Nursery School has helped feed children's need for monstrous-sized machinery through its annual Big Trucks fundraiser. Held at Saunders Quarry, children and families are invited each year to explore approximately 30 big and small trucks.
All proceeds raised through the annual event help the Skaneateles Nursery School send its student field trips and keep its art and music closets well stocked.
Event organizers previously reported that the 2012 edition of the Big Trucks fundraiser — set for Sept. 30 — is expected to attract approximately 5,000 families.
Fire engines, excavators, farming implements, diggers and vehicles used to train emergency responders are expected to make an appearance at the Marcellus quarry on Sunday.
To help keep inquisitive attendees full of fuel, food and drinks from Phoebe's Restaurant and Coffee Lounge, of Syracuse, and Valentine's Pizza, of Skaneateles, will be available at the Gravel Pit Cafe for purchase.
Other than imaginations, event organizers recommended parents bring towels to wipe off children's hands.
And for parents, organizers made one suggestion: bring ear plugs.
