A Festival of Trees will join the lights, floats and other flourishes of Auburn's annual Miracle on Genesee Street and Holiday Parade on Saturday, Nov. 25.

On the north and south lawns of Memorial City Hall, 14 7-foot trees will be featured from 5 to 8 p.m. They were decorated by the Auburn Doubledays, the Auburn High School Z Club, Blueprint II students, the Carmody Agency, Cayuga County employees, the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce, Choices for Change, The Citizen, city of Auburn employees, East Hill Family Medical, Seymour Public Library, Silbert Optical and St. Joseph School.

Auburn Downtown Business Improvement District Assistant Director Jesse Kline said the festival was proposed by Mayor Michael Quill, who also sits on the organization's board. She was "shocked" all 14 trees were claimed by community groups to decorate, she said.

"There was a lot of interest," she said. "I definitely think we'll do it again."

The festival continues recent efforts by the city to decorate downtown for the holidays, Kline said. Those efforts also include several 4-foot lamppost wreaths at downtown intersections, small trees at Exchange Street and Market Street Park donated by Strawberry Fields Hydroponic Farm, 10,000 additional lights on the city hall tree donated by Lyons National Bank, white lights on the State Street Mall trees donated by R&M Real Estate Group, and the return of speakers playing holiday music along Genesee Street. Miracle on Genesee Street made its debut last year, joining the parade, which turns 31 this year.

Near the Festival of Trees at city hall will also be several wreaths commemorating local veterans and first responders.

Kline said she's unsure how long the trees will remain on display, due to the unpredictability of the weather.

"We'd like them to be up as much as possible," she said. "It really does add a lot to the city hall north and south lawn."
