King Ferry Winery is getting some help with its Labor Day weekend cookout.
To celebrate the American worker, the Cayuga Lake winery will invite Alexander's Food Truck, of Ithaca, and Mami's Kitchen, of Syracuse, will serve food during the winery's Field Day Saturday. The Delta Mike Shaw Band will perform at 1 p.m. and Bad Alibi at 5 p.m., and wine slushies, craft beer and lawn games will round out the end-of-summer bash.
"We're trying to have more events because there's not a lot in King Ferry," said shipping manager and outside events coordinator Molly Baillargeon. "We're trying to give people something to do."
The two food trucks return from the winery's Kings of Summer event July 11. The increasingly popular service, combined with live music, can prove inviting to young and old alike, Baillargeon.
Alexander's menus commonly feature spiedie pork or chicken, as well as loaded bowls that serve the meat over roasted red potatoes, cheese, chipotle sauce and other options. Mami's, meanwhile, offers empanadas and Cubano sandwiches in addition to cheeseburgers, chicken fingers, hot dogs and other summer food staples.
As for the music, the name of the Lodi-based Delta Mike Shaw Band says it all: Guitarist Shaw specializes in the early blues style of the Mississippi delta, and has performed road and studio work with the Drifters, the Tams, Bobby Comstock, Chuck Berry and more.
Bad Alibi, of Lansing, will take the day home with a set of classic rock "that everyone remembers but never gets to hear because bands don’t want to take the extra time to learn the material," their Facebook page says.
Picnic tables and Adirondack chairs will be available on a limited basis, and guests can bring blankets and chairs. No outside food or alcohol will be permitted.
