Hope you are having a wonderful summer! The library summer activities are in full swing; I encourage you to participate and enjoy all we have to offer!
The Gazebo Gatherings kicked off last week and we are looking forward to all of the upcoming performances by great talent in this area! All of the gazebo shows are at 7 p.m. and the rain location is the library. Thank you to our generous sponsors: The town of Brutus, the village of Weedsport and Friends of the Weedsport Library. Thank you D.B.’s Drive-In for the use of the gazebo (located next to D.B.’s on North Seneca Street).
Tuesday, July 18, will feature By the Fireside with John Wilmot and Jacqui McCarthy. Come enjoy this unique blend of traditional and Irish music that shares the heritage of fiddle, guitar and hammered dulcimer.
We are thrilled that Loren Barrigar and Joe Whiting will be performing together at the gazebo on Tuesday, July 25! Join us as these two gifted musicians team up in Weedsport once again. They are amazing by themselves; what a treat to hear them together!
The Oswego Valley Fiddlers will take us into August, performing on Tuesday, Aug. 1. They are a member of The New York State Old Tyme Fiddlers' Association, which exists for those who enjoy playing, dancing and just listening to old-time fiddle music and have an interest in helping to preserve old-time fiddle music and its associated dance music.
Lock 52 Jazz Band will perform on Tuesday, Aug. 8. This group proves that you only need to look in your backyard for talent. Watch the sun set as the group jazzes up your evening! Grab your family and friends, a lawn chair or a blanket and wind down at the gazebo as your week winds up!
Our summer reading program, Build a Better World, is continuing through the week of Aug. 14. Preschool story hour programs are Tuesdays from 10:15 to 11 a.m., and Toddler Rhyme Time is Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. These programs will conclude on Aug. 15 and 16.
We are still signing up children entering grades kindergarten through six for the Building Readers book discussions. These are one-time programs scheduled during July and August, with each child receiving a book to read and keep.
We will have a music appreciation program at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20. Makayla Weaver will be playing the keyboard, using hand instruments and teaching songwriting with the children. Come and make some music! No registration is required.
The Merry-Go-Round Youth Theater will present "Huff and Puff: A Pig Tale" at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 27. The show will be at Trolley Park in the village of Weedsport. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on; there are also several picnic tables at the pavilion.
What is an apiary? Learn the definition and everything else relating to the world of bees! Join Bucky Haines of Haines Apiary as he discusses and shows us bee boxes and bee hives, and gives out samples of different kinds of honey. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, all ages are welcome, including adults!
Oh Jeez! Comics Library Program will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. Join Weedsport native Matt Magill as he takes the children through a program of creating a comic picture, reading and coloring. All ages are welcome!
Calling all budding artists, a painting workshop will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. Join Vickie Wheeler and learn the beginning skills of painting, then take home your own work of art! For children 5 and older, registration is required.
A big project will wrap up our summer at the library. We will be closed from Saturday, Aug. 19, through Saturday, Aug. 26, because we will be getting new carpeting in the main library! Due dates will be adjusted and we encourage you to stock up beforehand!
Especially during our “under construction” week, don’t forget about using the growing number of electronic services available to you just by having a library card. There are e-books and audiobooks on OverDrive; digital movies, music, audiobooks, e-books and more on Hoopla; and digital magazines on RBdigital Magazines! We can help you get started and answer questions you might have anytime! Summer is hot, but you are cool when you use these great services.
