An Auburn man accused of driving drunk crashed his car into a utility pole at the intersection of Seminary and Genesee streets Tuesday afternoon, injuring himself and two pedestrians, according to police.
The one-car accident happened at 3:55 p.m. when 63-year-old Thomas Beer, of 142 Perrine St., was driving west on Genesee Street in a 2008 Honda CRV, Auburn police said.
Beer smashed into a city utility pole near the Liberty Store at the bottom of the hill, badly damaging his car and sending debris flying. Some of that debris hit two pedestrians, 47-year-old Joan Bresee and 32-year-old Abbie Heffner.
Beer went to Upstate University Hospital with cuts and a possible abdominal injury. Blood tests there showed he had been drinking, police said.
Bresee and Heffner went to Auburn Community Hospital with less serious injuries, police said.
Beer was charged with driving while intoxicated, imprudent speed and failure to stay in his lane, police said.
