The Auburn chapter of the Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club is hosting a weekend-long benefit to raise money for a local charity.

Station 222 of Fire & Iron's Region 6 will host the Ride the Lightning rally to raise funds for the Burn Foundation of CNY, a local non-profit organization that provides burn awareness and prevention as well as support for burn victims. The event will feature activities such as a steak dinner, live music and a pub crawl.

The Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club, made up of firefighters and EMS workers with an interest in motorcycles, has a close connection with the Burn Foundation of CNY and has been planning this event for several months.

"To date, Chapter 222, with support from local bikers and business owners, has donated approximately $6,000 to the Burn Foundation of CNY," club vice president Sam Giannettino, said in a press release.

The weekend events will start with two different motorcycle rides at 10:30 and 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, and will continue through the weekend, with the Blessing of the Bikes marking the end of the activities at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, July 28.

The event has already drawn in more than 200 registered participants from out of town, which the club says will also benefit the city's economy.
