AUBURN | A Montezuma man was driving while intoxicated when he ran into an electrical pole before colliding into another vehicle, according to the Auburn Police Department.
At around 2:50 a.m. Sunday, police said 50-year-old Craig B. Cook, 8098 High St., Montezuma, was driving the wrong way down Arterial East in Auburn before turning onto Washington Street.
Cook and another passenger were heading southbound when he crashed into an electrical pole in the area of 33 Washington St., police said.
Cook turned into a private driveway before driving in reverse, but police said he backed out of the driveway into another vehicle, one that was heading southbound on Washington Street toward Orchard Street.
After the collision, police said Cook parked on Washington Street a short time before he was apprehended.
Cook was charged with felony DWI after police found he had previously been convicted of DWI. He was also charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after police found an amount of cocaine in his possession.
Cook was arraigned Sunday morning and remanded to Cayuga County Jail without bail.
