Destiny USA is about to get iced.
Along with the bevy of new shops and restaurants, the newly-expanded Syracuse mall will soon welcome a rare attraction: a gallery of ice sculptures.
The Ice Museum — owned and set to operated by Stan Kolonko, an Auburn resident — will feature themed ice sculptures that change with the seasons. Visitors will be handed a parka and gloves upon entering the Ice Museum, and will have a chance to enjoy drinks at an ice bar complete with seats and glasses made of ice.
According to a statement released by Destiny USA, the Ice Museum will span about 4,200 square feet on level 3 of the mall. The gallery will first feature a "Winter Wonderland" theme for the upcoming 2012 holiday season.
The Ice Museum will join the ranks of only a small number of similar attractions around the world — such as the Minus5 IceBar in Las Vegas and the Aurora Ice Museum in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Kolonko, a world-renowned ice sculptor who won has won multiple awards, said he was excited to bring his unique form of art to central New York.
"Ice carving is my first passion and will be introduced to Destiny USA in a unique and fun way," Kolonko said in the statement. "The Ice Museum will be perfect for a friend's night out to explore the new carvings and something different in Syracuse to try."
