Auburn officials will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil the city's first electric vehicle charging station Friday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Lincoln Street parking garage.
There will be several electric vehicles on display at the event — the Nissan Leaf, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, and the Smart Fortwo Electric Drive — for people to ride in and test drive, according to a press release from the city.
The installation of the charging station was the final of four high-impact action items the city completed in order to receive a Clean Energy Community designation from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. The city was awarded the designation in October.
According to the press release, the charging service will be offered for free for the first six months "to celebrate and promote the city’s first installation" of an electric vehicle charging station.
