The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision is seeking to recruit a new wave of corrections officer trainees.

On April 13, the department plans to offer a competitive Civil Service exam — for both English and Spanish speakers — to select corrections officer trainees. The spring exam will be the first offered by DOCCS since October 2010.

According to DOCCS, the starting annual salary for correction officers is $39,014. After completing an eight-week training program and a one-year probationary period, salaries go up to $46,990.

To take the exam, interested candidates must pay a non-refundable $35 fee and submit an application by Monday, Feb 25. For more information, visit cs.ny.gov.
