Candidates seeking office in Cayuga County, Auburn, Owasco and Sennett races will take part in televised forums over the next three weeks, starting with a county Legislature race debate on Tuesday.
The series of debates are recorded and produced by Cayuga Community College students, and will be broadcast on Auburn Regional Media Access channels on both Time Warner and Verizon systems. The forums are also posted for viewing at The Citizen's website, auburnpub.com.
The debates are moderated by The Citizen political columnist Guy Cosentino, while Jeremy Boyer, The Citizen's executive editor, develops and asks the questions of the participating candidates.
In cases where only one person running for a contested seat has agreed to participate, that candidate will appear on a half-hour interview show.
The programming starts Tuesday, Oct. 15, with the Cayuga County Legislature District 3 contest between incumbent David Axton and challenger Benjamin Vitale. That will be broadcast first on Time Warner access channels 12 and 98 at 7 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 17 will feature a forum for county Legislature District 7 candidates Keith Batman and William Heary, both newcomers to running for county legislator. That will be first broadcast at 7 p.m. on Time Warner access channels.
On the same day, District 11 incumbent Steven Barski is scheduled for an interview; his challenger, Frank Reginelli, said he was not available for the forum. That program will be aired first at 8 p.m. on Time Warner.
Verizon channel 31 and the Time Warner channels will also broadcast the District 3, 7 and 11 forums on Sunday, Oct. 20. That will start with the District 3 forum at 4 p.m., then the District 7 debate at 5 p.m. and the District 11 interview at 6 p.m.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Sennett town supervisor candidates Jeffrey Herrick, the incumbent, and Thomas Gray will square off at 7 p.m. on Time Warner.
Owasco supervisor candidates — incumbent Edward Wagner and challenger John Socci — will participate in a forum on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. on Time Warner.
Also on Oct. 24, county Legislature District 13 candidates Timothy Lattimore, the incumbent, and Susan Marteney will debate at 7:45 p.m. on Time Warner.
On Sunday, Oct. 27, the forums from that preceding week will also be shown on Verizon and Time Warner. That lineup starts at 4:30 p.m. with the Sennett supervisor candidates, followed by Owasco candidates at 5:15 p.m. and county Legislature District 13 at 6 p.m.
The series concludes with Auburn City Council candidates. As of Friday, challengers Terry Cuddey, Chris DeAngelis and Debby McCormick have agreed to participate in the Oct. 29 forum. Incumbents Matt Smith and William Graney have not responded to the invitation. That forum will first air on Time Warner at 7 p.m. Oct. 29, be re-broadcast on Time Warner at 7 p.m. Oct. 31 and be carried again at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3 on Verizon and Time Warner channels.
