The Cayuga County Legislature will hold a special meeting next week at the Cayuga County Nursing Home to provide an update on the review of the facility's potential merger into an Auburn facility.
Chairman Michael Chapman, R-Cato, said the Legislature will use the meeting to provide the public with an update on the situation at the nursing home, located on County House Road in Sennett.
County officials have been discussing for several months the state of the nursing home and whether the county facility should merge with Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center in Auburn. Both entities have struggled financially for years operating on their own.
Chapman said that no decision has been made yet on what the do with the nursing home, but said that the county is simply trying to keep everyone in the loop.
"It's just to let everyone know what's going on or what's not going on," said Chapman. "We want to keep the public, and the staff and residents at the nursing home, updated on the situation."
The Legislature announced in May that a committee responsible for making recommendations on what to do with the nursing home was ready to share its report, but no recommendations have been made public yet.
Although he said no decision has been made, Chapman also said the reason for holding next week's meeting at the nursing home would "become evident after the news has been provided."
The meeting is schedule for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
