The Auburn Enlarged City School District Board of Education on Tuesday awarded bids to four construction companies in four categories that will do the phase-one work on the capital improvement project that was approved by the public in 2011.

The board received 13 bids among the categories of general contractor, mechanical work, electrical work and roofing construction.

The winning bids were those of Bouley Associates, Inc., of Auburn ($1.3 million for general contracting); Siracusa Mechanical, Inc., of Auburn ($174,674 for mechanical); J & E Electric, Inc., of Auburn ($417,500 for electrical); and Apple Roofing Corporation, of Syracuse ($1.4 million for roofing construction).

The school board must choose the lowest responsible bidder when it goes out to bid for district services, according to board policy.

The $19.5 million capital project will include renovations to all eight district buildings.
