Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge opened a new bicycling and walking trail in Seneca Falls last week.
The one-way, stone-dust path — dubbed the Summertime Bike and Hike Trail — is 1.84 miles long and travels along the existing Wildlife Drive. It opened last week as the 19th Annual Cycle the Erie Canal riders passed through Wednesday.
Refuge officials ask that visitors stay on the trail and Wildlife Drive as access to the water, fields and other areas is prohibited. A "Rules of the Road" pamphlet is available at the refuge visitor center.
"We are very excited to offer this new experience at Montezuma," Visitor Services Manager Andrea VanBeusichem said. "This is a great opportunity for people boating the canal to visit and take a ride or walk along the new path."
The trail will remain open through Aug. 15. It will reopen next summer around Memorial Day weekend.
