An Auburn man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly breaking into a home and stealing the owner's car and dog, police said.
State police say that Thomas E. Conlin, 29, of Auburn, was under the influence of drugs when he broke into a home on Jericho Road in the Town of Sennett and took the homeowner's car keys and their dog. Conlin drove the vehicle to a residence on Turnpike Road in the Town of Sennett, where the owners of the home called 911, according to police. State troopers responded to the scene and found Conlin behind the wheel of the stolen vehicle, parked partially in the driveway, blocking westbound traffic on Turnpike Road.
Conlin was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony. He was also charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and third-degree unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, both misdemeanors. Conlin was arraigned in the Town of Owasco and taken to Cayuga County Jail with bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Owasco Town Court on April 3.
The dog was returned to its owner unharmed.
