An Auburn man is facing a felony assault charge after police said he punched an officer in the face.
Auburn police said they responded to Auburn Ale House around 2 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 after a bar patron called about Steven J. Felder, of 6 Brookfield Place. Police said they did not have information about the nature of the caller's complaint.
When police arrived, an altercation ensued and allegedly Felder punched an officer in the face. The blow broke the officer's glasses and caused pain and swelling, police said. Originally police charged the 22-year-old with second-degree harassment, a violation, but due to the officer's injuries police upgraded that charge to second-degree assault, a class E felony.
Felder was also charged with two counts of resisting arrest, misdemeanors. Police said the officer was treated and did not need to be removed from duty.
Felder was arraigned Monday at Auburn City Court and remanded to Cayuga County Jail with bail set at $400 cash and $900 bond. Felder posted bail soon after. He is set to appear in court on March 22.
